Sure Fit Designs

I've been looking and thinking about http://www.surefitdesigns.com/ for quite some time.  Carolyn started using this system a year or so ago, and I've been following her progress.  She has had good success with making very well fitting patterns, and designing garments as well.  There's a thread on SFD at Stitcher's Guild also.  I finally caved.  And today, all this is MINE!!

I bought the Dress, Shirt and Pants kit.  There's books and leaflets to read, and a DVD to watch.  There's a lot of coolness here!  Can't wait to get going on it.  Much fun!

I recently made my first shorts muslin from this kit and it was a hoot! Because I measured from my natural waist (which is really high), I had shorts with a crotch that looked a mile long! The dart tips ended where my waistband normally sits. The pattern also has a bit more ease than I was looking for but this is just personal preference and easy to adjust. I will be trying again using my artificial waistline for measuring purposes instead. I think once I do this the pattern will be great. I'm excited to see how yours turn out!

I keep an eye on it but can't commit. I was given an older system with a gal they apparently have problems with, and if I like it (and see how well you do) I might take the plunge.

I will be very interested to see how these work out for you. I am always on the trail of more fitting tips.

I think the older system is still the same as the main dvd and kits are older( a friend compared hers to mine) someone correct me if I am wrong, My friend had difficulty w/ working w/ the lady so perhaps it is the same person?? She did get a good fit on the kit by herself , the new kits are just add ons to the basic older kit

I just purchased the Sure Fit Design kit for dresses and shirts. I received it on the 6th which I think was a Wednesday. Let me start at the beginning, I am shaped like a large idaho baker potato with a marachino cherry for a head and popsicle sticks for arms and lege. Trying to fit that body with an off the shelf pattern was a waste of money and time, unless, I purchased a pattern that was like the old tent dress then it would fit. Or have a bodice that ended under by bust and just gather material onto it for the skirt. I was so discusted that I stopped sewing for about 6 years, I only made things that wern't for my body. My last dress was a disaster, I had given up I was on a weeks vacation with now, nothing to do. I was watching youtube and came across Sure Fit Designs. Glenda made it look like something I could do, so I thought what the heck I just ruined a $20 piece of material, I'll give it a go. Well I called and made the order. My husband measured me. Here hold his he would say as he worked his way around my body. I think we need a bigger tape measure. He was going to drag out his wind up metal tape that he uses with building, but we din't have to resort to that. We finally found one that would go up high enough. Anyway, I put in the CD and watched Glenda do a little bit, then I would mimic her actions. It took awhile, I was sweating profusely wondering how was this ever going to work. By evening I had the front, back and skirt drawn. Next step the muslin dress.....Ohhh was I scared, I made the dress sent my husband outside and tried it on. Hey what's this I asked mystelf. This darn thing fits. I have gone the long way areound to let you know that no matter what shape you are and no matter how much trouble you have had in the past, try this system. It will work for you. Sorry for the misspelled words I don't see so good anymore......Sandra...Palmetto Florida
