The iconic Chanel jacket-never goes out of style. Here she is again in Claire Shaeffer for Vogue 8804. Three piece sleeve (even though the pattern envelope says it's a 2-piece, it IS a 3 piece.) To accompany that pattern, Claire is writing a six-part series about "THE JACKET", beginning with The June/July issue of Vogue pattern magazine.
The first of the six articles:
She'll be writing about the couture techniques used in creating a couture jacket.
I have my pattern, the first magazine, and will be shopping for appropriate fabric, trim and lining. This is on my bucket list for fall. I didn't participate in the Chanel Sew Along a couple of years ago, and I'm looking forward to the challenge. How about you? Do you have renewed interest in "That Jacket"

22 Talk to me:
The Jacket would be my highest aspiration, to be achieved before I die, but for now I'll continue settling for mediocre knit shirts! (Now a flannel jacket, I can handle...)
Ooooh! I got that pattern, and it's on my bucket list too, but probably not this year. I can't wait to see yours take shape though! So fun!
Hi Gwen! Can't wait to see your version - I know it will be great!
The Chanel jacket has been on my list for awhile now....I'll be picking up the Claire Schaeffer pattern soon. I think this should be my Fall project! Do I detect a sew-a-long????? :-)
I've got the pattern now I just need to get my butt in gear.
It's an interesting thing...I will spend weeks sewing up garments for a SWAP but the thought of spending 40/50 hours on one garment and I get the willies. I will be watching this closely and learning as much as I can because who knows maybe someday I will have the time to spend on this one special garment!
I have been thinking about this one for a while. Several other bloggers have mentioned the pattern and their plans too. I am on the fence about when, but plan to get the pattern today actually. Your post has renewed my interest. Can't wait to follow your process. Have you chosen any fabric ideas? Are you going to make a muslin. Elmo, over at adonising.blogspot.com has just almost finished her wearable muslin of the original Claire Shaffer Chanel-style
jacket. It is beautiful.
That goes beyond my patience but I know the rewards and outcome will be fabulous.
I feel like I will be booed and hissed by the sewing blogosphere for admitting this, but Chanel jackets are just not my thing. Not at all. Don't get me wrong, they are magnificently made and I admire anyone that puts the work into them. But I am just not into the style or styling. I'm pretty sure it's a generational issue.
Hi ladies, I picked up the pattern last weekend
and have been shopping online for fabric. So far nothing has made the cut yet. I don't sew a lot so this is going to be quite a challenge.
Looking forward to watching your progress.
Joy
I'm waiting for my pattern to arrive, and look forward to reading the Vogue articles and watching your jacket come to life. I'm still working on mine from the Chanel sew-along :)
I'm looking forward to watching you make this jacket! Not sure I'm up for it - yet:-)
You did inspire me. I ordered the pattern and got the Vogue Pattern Mag. At least that is a step in the right direction!
I've bought my pattern and have a beautiful Italian wool to use for this one.It will be a fall project for me.Will love following your progress.
I'll be sewing with you this Fall. I got as far as a jacket muslin with the Chanel Sew Along, but it wasn't a REAL Chanel style jacket. I never could decide on the trim. I have the V8804 pattern and the Vogue Pattern magazine. Now, I have to shop Rose's Fabric Warehouse (my stash) to decide on the fabric and make decisions about lining and trim. With this awesome pattern, I'm going to make it happen this year.
I keep thinking about such a jacket, but somehow it other projects get in the way. This is a lot of time commitment - something I always seem to be short on.

Hi, Gwen. I just discovered you via Lynn/Sister. I have this pattern also and have been wanting to attempt the jacket. I even have some fabric picked out. Can't wait to see yours come together!
Thanks for posting about this. I have been trying to find or create just the right pattern. I will have to search for the magazine. I have the fabric and a skirt almost done to go with it.

Hi Gwen! Glad you're feeling better and better. I've got the new CS jacket pattern, there must have been a correction as to the info on the front of the envelope. Mine reads three piece sleeve.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with it and the SureFit patterns.
Take Care.
