I bought some lacy, meshy type yarn that, when knitted, forms ruffles. This yarn looks like a tube, but when spread open, becomes a light, airy, open fabric. Knitting sweaters in the summer doesn't appeal to me. The thought of heavy yarn in my lap makes me hot. But this very lightweight yarn works up into pretty, ruffled scarves, perfect for hot weather knitting. There are several brands. This one is Estelle's Frill Seeker. I had to go to YouTube to see how to knit with it. Yay for YouTube!
There is a quaint little town near me, Lexington, that is right on Lake Huron. There are a lot of shops along the main street that cater to tourists. Gift shops, dress shops, ice cream parlors, etc., with old, creaky wooden floors. It's a great place to spend the day and browse. I saw these cute wine glasses and just couldn't resist. I bought one for myself and one for my daughter.
It's a Mason jar on a stem! Called "Redneck Wine Glass". I've Googled them, and they are available online through several online stores, one being Amazon. Love it!
I have the rain poncho lined and ready to top-stitch. I'm not in love with laminated cotton. It's heavy and I can tell, will be hot. I will finish it though, put snaps on it and talk about it at Creative Clothing Club. And I'll get into detail about it here in a few days.

I have some of that yarn too! A different brand than yours, but the same idea. I bought it in March and have not knitted it up yet.
I am sorry to hear about the laminated cotton. I have a roll of it here and have not touched it yet. I look forward to your report.
I don't knit, but I would drink ANYTHING out of those 'wine' glasses!!! I'm off to google.... :D
Update: Even better - make your own! With a cheapo candle holder, a Ball jar, & some glue. How Redneck can you get? :D
Ha ha, frill seeker: LOVE it!
Your ruffle scarf is looking so cute and those glasses are a hoot!
What a beautiful effect that yarn gives. Those scarves will be quite special.
I absolutely love your wine glasses! I'm off to Amazon to see if I can get into any trouble.
My local Big Lots store had balls of that yarn for $1.00. I bought one in every color, thinking I would use it as a funky trim on a jacket or T shirt. But it looks so neat knitted I want to take a look at the YouTube videos.
I love that yarn!!! Thanks for sharing about it! The wine glass is awesome!!! I know several people who would appreciate receiving those as gifts!
i'm anxious to see the rain coat. I hope it doesn't turn out to be tooooo hot to wear.
What a neat yarn you are working with and that wine glass...I just have to laugh. I've never seen anything like it. A day in Lexington sounds like so much fun!
How do we not have that wineglass in every store in Alabama?! Thanks for showing it to us - I needed gift ideas!
