Simple Sewing

Thank you for the nice comments about my sewing room.  It is my favorite room in the house, of course but was sadly in need of an overhaul.  Now, that it's all cleaned up and organized, one would think I could sew something more clever than--

T-Shirts!

But no, Tshirts are what I need.  I "whacked and stacked" this pile of knit fabrics, plus a couple others in my stash.  I've made six so far.  I don't know what to do with that diagonal print, but I thought it would be fun to play with.

I was at Jos recently, and bought these two old issues of  Sew Stylish.  They are Fall of 2007 and 08, bundled together.  They're both good issues, which makes me wonder why I didn't get them when they first appeared.  ????  I like this magazine, and don't intend to miss another issue.

Sewing tools are fun.  These are my favorite because, not only are they functional, they are old-looking and wonderful.  An awl and a point turner. They are made of iron- feel good in my hand.  Christine Jonson, of CJpatterns.com was selling these when I was fortunate enough to be at her trunk show some time ago .  Her husband is a blacksmith.  He made these tools.  Aren't they wonderful?

Now, I'm going to order some patterns.  I definitely want to do some creative sewing!

You can never have too many tshirts! And the home-made ones really are nicer. No twisted sleeves after washing etc.

Those tools are good looking! I've been behind on reading so I just saw your sewing room. Wow -- really great space. And, as to tee shirt -- I have never made one -- intimidated!

I just don't see your T-shirts, as T-shirts. Nice job on them. Yes, your hand-made tools are neat. Enjoy them. Did you order patterns from Clotilde? I got an email from them today, Kwik Sew patterns are on sale, 28 pages of them. lol Yes, I bought.

Congratulations on the remodel of the sewing room. I think T-shirts are a great start to breakin the freshly organized studio.

Use the diagonal to make chevrons! Karen at Sewing by the Seat of My Pants made a shirt for her boyfriend a while back that made great use of a diagonal print for some asymmetric chevrons.

ooh that Fall 07 issue of Sew Stylish was the best they ever produced IMHO. I've only got a few issues but they appeared to go quite crafty for a while after that and I stopped buying.

Knit tops are such a mood-lifter, aren't they? From machine to wardrobe in no time!
