Sewing Day, Sewing Club, Sewing Patterns

I finally got in a whole sewing day.  It was wonderful!  I'm working on my red duster and made a lot of progress today.  I should be able to finish it tomorrow--Saturday, latest.  So far, so good.

Creative Clothing Club met Tuesday.  Our guest speaker was BarbCallahan, of barboriginals.com.  She's from Florida.  Some of you may have met her a sewing expos.  Barb does "artsy" type clothing--  She has a line of patterns also--simple, loose-fitting garments which she embellishes..  Barb is a very entertaining speaker, and she had a great trunk show.  I picked up several good ideas along with three of her patterns.

The coat is called Tea Garden, made from fleece.  The other two patterns are tunics.  Unfortunately, the photographs don't represent the garments very well.   They look entirely different up close and in person.

Last week Simplicity was on sale at Jos.  Not wanting to be left out of a sale, I picked up these tunic patterns.

And, I found Tshirt knits that were 50% off.  Couldn't resist those.

These probably won't be made this year because I already have made several Ts, and have a few cut and still waiting to be sewn.  But, there's always next summer.

Hopefully, I'll have another good sewing today tomorrow.  I'm anxious to get that duster finished so, 1) I can wear it and  2) so I can move on to making a tunic.  Or whatever.

I have made a couple of tunics this year, too, and am really happy with them. I can't wait to see the red duster. Hopefully you will have more time to sew this week than I did!!

Sounds like a very fun day. Great new patterns and your Joann's had all those knits? If so, I am so jealous.

"or whatever".
LOL!

What a great day! Those t shirt knits are really nice colors, nothing like that at my tiny JO's.

I just had a look in the London Vogue magazine (I don't think I have picked up a Vogue in the previous ten years!) and it said that red was one of the new transitional trends as we move towards Autumn. So you are right on the crest of fashion!

I once had a blouse (or should I say duster?) that looked almost the same as the one in the picture in your previous post. Even the colour is the same. Looking forward to see your end-result.

Interesting that Callahan called her jacket Tea Garden. Sewing Workshop has a great pattern called the Tea Garden Tee. Wonder who was first.

I think this duster will be a real workhorse in the wardrobe. I know up here a "summer coat" is definitely needed and your duster would surely fit the bill. I don't think our climates are all that different.

Good haul! I like the coat pattern, and the idea of a more tailored/classic garment in fleece. I hope you will get around to making it! Have fun sewing... I need a whole sewing day asap myself!

I too went to the sale at Jo's but mine did not have such great knits. I have a few of those patterns too and will enjoy seeing your take on them.

Those full sewing days are such a treat! They almost beat chocolate ice cream! Yes, Barb is a great speaker and her patterns look good, too. You had a great haul at Jo's. I look forward to the duster and maybe a tunic.

I like those patterns from Barb's -- I had not seen them before. Thanks for the tip. Can't wait to see your red duster!

Wow! you made a nice "haul" of patterns and fabric. Lucky lady! I've seen Barb a couple of times and attended a couple of her classes. I always enjoy them and hearing about all her ideas. I have made one of her jackets several years ago (I don't remember the name & too lazy to look it up right now) and enjoyed wearing it. If fact, I should make another version sometime soon!
