Oh What a Tangled Web We Weave

---when first we practice to deceive! That includes sewing patterns. They are sneaky, sometimes.

At first glance, S2703 looks as if it has a notched collar/lapel. You know--that 4 seam deal that must be sewn absolutely perfect or it screams "home-made". But--this collar is deceiving. It is actually a shawl collar, with a "v" shape cut into it to look like a notched collar. Oh, you crafty one you. Here's the collar and pattern.

.

I've made a muslin of this jacket. I reduced the shoulder seam by 1/2", which is my normal alteration in that area. There was just a bit too much ease in the sleeve cap. I reduced that by taking off 1/4" from the top of the sleeve cap, tapering to the notches on each side of center. I'm very picky about how tops fit me in the shoulder/arm. I want the shoulder seam exactly at the edge of my shoulder--not hanging off. I'll be putting a shoulder pad in this jacket also.

The outer fabric is cut. It's a lime green linen-look poly. It will be underlined with batiste. The pattern doesn't call for lining, but I will put one in. I don't see any inherent construction problems. The muslin went together easily. No couture here--just soft tailoring. Next I'll cut the batiste and baste it to the outer pieces. That will take some time.

Here's the finished animal print blouse. It's simple, nothing fancy. But oh--grrrrrrr, darlings!

Hi, I just dropped by to tell you to keep your snow to yourselves. We lived in Detroit for about 15 years and I've seen snow on Mother's Day. I deserve (yes!) cherry blossoms in March. My son still lives in Detroit, I think I may have dropped him on his head when he was a baby....

Grrr is right. I love it. The jacket sounds so pretty. I love green of any shade, but that's so pretty for spring. I really don't have that much energy, just projects that I have promised to do.

I like that pattern. I'll have to pick it up the next time they go on sale.

I didn't make the puppets, just the wigs. The puppets are from Puppet Productions. I have made some, mostly animals, but they aren't very professional looking.
Thanks for the comment on the bed jacket, (I like that name for it) or shawl, as someone else called it, or whatever. It seems to be just right for her. She had it on tonight when I went to help her with supper. I may make a couple more, for a couple of the ladies who are at the same nursing home and who I have known all my life. Then, I may try to make some to sell.
