Sometimes, you just need some basics. Boring but necessary. I really need some blouses and pants. After my pants shopping experience, I know the only way I'm getting pants that fit will be to make them. Blouses are easier to buy, but I have a lot of blouse weight fabric in my stash that needs to be sewn.
This is my TNT blouse pattern. It's Palmer/Pletsch for McCall, number 3284. Plain blouse, nothing fancy. It is a semi-fitted blouse, darts front and back, roll collar. Easy sew.
I made one in an ivory/brown print. I have brown pants to wear with it. There's another one in the works that is a multi-color animal print. Here's the finished blouse, and a detail of how I
finish the inside of the rolled collar. There's several ways the collar can be finished. I like to bind the edge. It's easy, and makes a nice, clean finish.
When the animal print blouse is sewn, I'll probably work on a jacket. I have a pattern traced and altered, ready for a muslin.
There was no sewing going on here this weekend. I had my two grandsons, age 2 and 8 months for the night on Friday, and all day Saturday. I love having them, and sewing can wait. We delivered them to their parents Saturday evening, and had a Wii bowling party.
After church today, DH and I decided to go shopping, and came home with a Wii. To justify it, we bought Wii fit also, for exercise, you know. It's a health issue!
I wonder if there's a Wii sewing game? Maybe one that would solve all pant fitting problems, for instance. Speaking of that--I've been following the jeans sew-along at PR. There's some interesting problem solving going on over there.
Sewing is priority this week. Famous last words!

You sound like a real kindred spirit. I'm the same age as you and have been sewing since I was a kid and have never taken a break ffrom it.God bless you. And thank you for visiting my blog.
Making blouses is a necessary evil. I think I'll pick that pattern up. Today I worked on a simple jacket out of a blouse-weight fabric. It turned out really well. Maybe that's something you should consider too. Love the brown and tan.
Isn't the Wii a blast? We can get pretty competitive, but it's a really fun way to spend an evening with the family. My daughter surprised me with her "tree pose" from the Wii Fit Yoga, I guess we're all learning around here!
I won't tell my twins you bought a Wii, they will be so jealous!
I hear you! I need to sew a white blouse; I've just been putting it off. I also need a new pair of black slacks, but white and black seem so boring somehow!
I too love this sewing blog community. What a wonderful knowledge to know there are other seamstresses out there. You do such perfect work. I love your creativity. Yes, pants and blouses can be boring, but not the way you approach them. That fabric is great! I really appreciate your comments on my blog.
Thank you Gwen, perseverance sure did pay off!
Gwen where are you in Michigan. I'm in Flint.
Pretty blouse - basics are nice though...how do you bind the inside collar? With a bias strip? I am always looking for a better way...
Keep us posted on the Wii exercise. It sounds like such a good idea, and my kids have a Wii.
TNT patterns are nice because they go so quick together and it's a great shirt.
I find everything is easier to buy, I just don't like it as well!
Haven't tried the Wii yet, but it looks soooo fun. I think it's more classy than boring. lol. Great job.
I with you with regards to the wonderful sewing community online. It's so much fun and a excellent form of teaching and learning.
Very nice work on the blouses. Please tell us more about the finishing on the collar.
I was just thinking the last night that I need some "necessary blouses and bottoms too. Lately, I'll been on this dress "kick". But I am in need of some coordinates as well.
Thanks,
C
Your blouse looks great.
Checking in on sewing blogs can be addictive but sew much fun :)
I love that leaf print on your blouse. That's just the kind of print I like!
You have time to sew with a brand new Wii? Wow! When we got ours, we would stay up until 2:00 a.m. playing and then wake up grumpy and sore for work. That went on for a long time. I'm thinking I need to get a Wii Fit though and I hear Guitar Heros is addictive!
Just found your blog and am really enjoying the sewing talk. Also, we just got a wii for my husband's birthday and are loving wii bowling. Of note, my 3 year old granddaughter plays a mean game of what she calls "beautiful day" (wii golf) because of the colorful outdoor scenery so your grandson may be ready to join you in wii competition soon.
