Ready, Set, Sew!!

Fabric from GorgeousFabrics arrived today!  Winter Sunshine wool crepe and a yellow/black/white stripe lining  to go with it.

I made a muslin for M5711.  This pattern was very well drafted.  Everything fit together perfectly.

Front and back:

Squared armsythe.

Dropped sleeve with a pleat:

I tried Pam's method of shrinking the wool crepe by putting it in the dryer with hot, wet towels.  There was no shrinkage. Wool crepe should shrink quite a bit .  So, tomorrow I will begin the laborious task of wet-ironing it.  All that steam around my middle age self is going to hot me up but good.  Not to mention that I have excessively curly/frizzy hair even in a totally dry place.  Still, it has to be done..

I'll probably underline with batiste.  That's in the dryer now.  More ironing.  Once that's done, the fun begins on Jacket #1 of 12!

At least it is freezing cold outside! I just got inside from a walk and a hot, steamy iron sounds nice.
Hope it goes well tomorrow. It does sound like a lot of work!

So much work before you can even cut into your fabric - but so worth it for excellent results. Looking forward to seeing this gorgeous yellow jacket.

That's good feedback that the dryer method didn't work for you. My next coat will be wool crepe, so I guess I'm in the same boat as you.

That is a very cute muslin!

That muslin looks wonderful, Gwen. This jacket should be a piece of cake to sew. Oh, and lovely color!

The muslin looks great! The fabric is lovely.

Your muslin looks fabulous so we know the jacket will be even more so. Kind of odd that the crepe didn't shrink. There are some wools that are treated and do not shrink. You may want to check with Ann before going thru the ironing process.

I just love that color! The muslin's looking really good. And I'm glad you mentioned that method of pre-shrinking your wool crepe. I was going to try that method tomorrow as I have wool crepe picked out for an upcoming sewing project also.

I'm really jealous of your Gorgeous Fabric...just love her stuff. The muslin looks great, and can't wait to see the finished work. Best of luck with all that steaming.

I love this pattern! I really do! The prep of the fabric doesn't sound like much fun though.

I am so curious to see how this turns out. I love almost all the design details of that pattern, but the dropped shoulder looks movement-restrictive so I've written it off. Love your bright yellow!
