My Hot Pattern

I just read Debbie's post about her Hot Patterns Riveria Boulevard Jacket.  It looks terrific on her.
Nancy made one a few weeks ago, and hers looked great too.   I've had that pattern for a while, and after reading their reviews of the pattern, and finding some time--I have mine started.

The patterns calls for knits, but I'm making mine from this gray/black wool stripe fabric.  It's a brushed wool, loosely woven.  I bought it at a sewing meeting--3 yards for 50 cents.  My jacket will be lined  in a black print lining fabric I got off the grab table at another sewing meeting.  The only money I'll be out for it is buttons.  I am turning the stripes so that they run lengthwise on the lower bodice, and cross-wise on the upper bodice.  I also bought 3 yards of charcoal gray solid wool for 50 cents that will be slacks to go with the jacket.

Yesterday, I worked on the pattern, and cut and sewed a muslin.

I changed the pattern just a bit.  The sleeeves had a seam down the center.  I eliminated that seam, and the CB seam also. The stripe doesn't need to be broken up with seams.  I added a cuff at the sleeve hem. This is a boxy jacket that doesn't require a lot of fitting.   The Big Four pattern companies share one thing in common--and that is the chest/shoulder/neckline area of their patterns are very often large.  Not so with Hot Patterns.  I like their draft.

Today was very productive.  I cut out the jacket and fused the interfacing.  I am using Pro Weft Fusible that I ordered from Pam.  I like that interfacing.  It's light but firm enough for soft tailoring.  I may not get back to my sewing room this weekend, but have some time next week.

Earlier in the week, I made a stop at Jo's and bought several pieces of  cotton interlock for t-shirts.

When I find a block of time, I'll "whack and stack" some t-shirts so they're ready to sew.  I've made the same t-shirt from the same Stretch and Sew pattern so many times, I can do it in my sleep.  Making them isn't creative, but I like the way my Ts fit.  My t-shirt pattern is the first thing I made during the Ann Person S&S era, which really changed the way we were sewing at that time.  That was in the 70s.  I think I got my  money's worth out of that pattern!

I picked up these McCall patterns that were on sale.

It is soooooo cold in Michigan.  Brrrrr!  I live on an Island and my house has water on two sides.  It's very open here--no buildings to block the wind coming off the Bay.  The canals are glazed over with ice.  It was predicted we would have a mild winter.  So far, the weather forecasters are batting zero!

Stay warm everyone.  Enjoy your weekend.  Sew much.

No kidding about the weather here! I waited for my daughter at the bus stop after school and couldn't feel my fingers when she finally arrived (20 min. late)! Stay warm, and keep up the good work!

It looks like your muslin is progressing nicely! I just received my first HotPatterns also. I hope to get started on those soon. I need to do some Christmas chores. I have been sidetracked by my sewing this year!!
It is cold in VA also. It was only around 20 this morning. That is pretty cold for us this time of the year!

Looks like it's going to be fun to sew. I have some patterns from the 70's too I use often. And we really did get our money's worth since we only paid a buck fifty for them all the time. Now we have to wait for them to go on sale.

OK - I'll think about you in your cold weather and cool off (we had record heat of 89 yesterday) and you can think of me in my heat to warm up. :) It is crazy weather. I can't wait to get some cold weather.

Enjoy your sewing moments!

Your muslin looks terrific, can't wait to see the finished garment. I am cold just reading about the wind and water on your island. I bet it is beautiful though, especially in the spring and summer.

Well it's supposed to get down to 32 degrees tonight in Georgia - so I guess that means it's cold EVERYWHERE except down there in Florida where Cindy lives. For years I've said that I want to retire in sunny Florida, I'm not a cold weather girl. I have what I think is just the perfect fabric for that jacket. My HP pattern for that jacket came last week - I've had my eye on it for months. Your muslin is perfect!

I can't wait to see your jacket. You always do such a great job with the detailed finishing!! The fabric sounds great and such a bargain!!
It's cold here in TN too. We don't have water around us though. I can't imagine how cold that would make you feel. We had a lot of rain a couple of nights ago. The water was frozen everywhere that it was still standing. It rained enough that several neighboring school systems were out for flooding.

We are having the coldest winter we've had in a long time. We actually had snow before Chicago this year and we never get snow in the deep south. I am not a cold weather person. I'm even wearing socks to bed.

Look forward to seeing your jacket. Sounds like it will be very nice.

I have 2 of those patterns you just got! Haven't made the coat yet, but it should be coming up soon for my daughter. Good luck with your HP jacket. The muslin looks good. I've had mixed results with hot patterns.

Looks like you have found some winning patterns! Can't wait to see your finished garments. I will have to check out the McCall's trench coat pattern. Everyone should have at least one in their closet, at least according to Tim Gunn. Looks like a good project for a spring coat.

I do love that Hot Patterns jacket. It's going to be wonderful on you. I've been putting off making my trench coat (I bought the Burberry fabrics from Michaels a while back) and I've got everything but the buttons on hand. As Lindsay said, everyone needs one in her closet.

Hey! It's looking good. Love the "whack and stack" phrase. And living on an island? Well, that sounds really cool. Maybe a little too cool literally though ;) .
