I got the new sewing book, "The Dressmaker's Handbook of Couture Sewing Techniques" by Lynda Maynard in today's mail. A few of you already have it and have reviewed it. I've just flipped through it briefly. It's laid out well and has great photography. I'm anxious to sit down with it and a cup of something hot, and read, read, read, every page. It's a good go-to-bed book.
Here's the cover:
Look at these pretty pictures. It seems very well illustrated.
I won't get to my sewing room until the weekend, I don't think. The doctors don't want my husband driving for a few weeks, as the risk for another stroke is still great right now. So, I drive him to doctors (which I would anyway), and to his band practices and wherever he wants/needs to go. I don't mind. He would do it for me. And heaven knows, the situation could have turned out much, much worse. Meanwhile, I'll read about sewing, and figure out what my next JAM will be.
MI is having a thaw! Even though we have some rough winter weather to come, this little break with peaks of sunshine makes us feel spring is imminent!

Gorgeous book. I look forward to your review!
I am going to have to get that book. I hope your husband continues to improves.
Oh, Gwen, I missed your post about your husband's stroke. I know how scarey it is when someone you love and depend on is seriously ill. I'm very glad to hear he's recovering and wasn't worse. It gives you both a chance to make some changes to prevent a more serious stroke. I hope you can get back to sewing and the normalcy it represents.
It's So nice that your husband is doing better.
I love reading sewing books while waiting...I don't see the time go by at all.
Oh I missed your post about your husband too, I'm so sorry but glad to hear that he is doing better!
I'm coming in late too - so sorry about that and hope it never happens again! Both of you take care, and what good timing to get a book that's fun to read.
Gwen - I missed the post about your husband's medical issues. I'm so sorry you both are going through this, although it does sound like things are looking positive. Stay strong!
Sounds like good progress is being made on the health front and that gives hope for a positive outcome. I love taking sewing books to bed too.
With all your reading lately, you are going to be spilling over with wisdom! I'm still thinking about this new book - probably will buy it.
Gwen, hope that you and DH continue to see progress, small as it seems each day. I too just purchased this book and hope you enjoy some quiet time to read and enjoy.
My brother had a very serious stroke several years ago and I had little hope. He now shows little evidence though at first there was memory blur and he had a lot of therapy sessions to walk. I hope your loved one makes lots of progress really fast. All of the strokes are so different. We are thrilled with my brother's progress though it took a while to get there. Sewing doesn't seem very important anymore when a family member is ill. If you have a lot of sessions or even hospital tests or stays to wait through as I did, you might try sometimes one of the little dvd players with earphones and some of the sewing tutorial dvds for variety to add to the book selections. I love the book you showed -would like to fnd it. Best wishes for you and hubby. mssewcrazy
I think that book is on my list of wannagets. It looks well worth buying.
I am glad to hear of your husband's progress. I know it is demanding when a loved one has a serious illness. It's something we don't think twice about, though. As you said, " he would do it for me." That thought has gotten my husband and myself thru many a challenge. I wish you both the best.
Again, I am praying for you and your husband, still. This book looks wonderful!
I didn't see your post about your husband's stroke until today... This must have been such a hard and stressful time for you. Glad to know he is doing better and that his vision is back to normal!
This book looks fabulous!
Sounds like a good book to add to the library. I look forward to your review.
Any relationship has good times and rough and your being there for him is part of the blessing of a good marriage. As you say...he would do it for you. I am glad to hear he is doing better!
