AWOL

Sewing has really been at a stand-still lately. I haven't had a good block of time to sew, and not much ambition. Funerals, doctor appointments, and other life things have taken up my time and energy.

This morning, I put on a dress to go to church--one that I made last year. I love this dress. It is very hot and humid today, and this dress it the most comfortable garment I could find.

I started with this OOP McCall Pattern: 8108. If it were any older, it would be vintage!

It's such a simple, loose type dress. I made a tie in the back to cinch it in and give it some shape. I made an elbow-length sleeve, and trimmed the edges of the sleeves and hems with a full ruffle. It's made of a poly georgette, and honestly, I could sleep in it and it would not wrinkle.

I noticed though, that I need to practice the lady-like skills needed to get in and out of a vehicle, if you know what I mean!

There's a couple of things on my cutting table, that I'm hoping to get to this week. I'm ready for fall, especially on a miserable day like this one.

Now, I have to walk the "dreadmill". And make a salad, which I'm going to have an affair with after while!

Have a good week!

Actually this pattern is still available at the McCall's site. I may order as it looks very comfortable when we're hot and humid here in the East.

Sometimes life gets in the way and there's no time to sew; I haven't been able to sew during the past week too.

That's a very pretty dress!

I can see why you like that dress so much - so flowy and feminine!

You look very classy in that dress my dear lady!

That's a really pretty dress and I love fabrics that don't wrinkle. Those simple flowy lines always make you feel feminine and well dressed, no matter how simple the style is. It's still officially winter here, but today I was down to shorts and a tshirt in the yard, so it won't be long before I'm sewing things like this, too!

Very pretty dress, sorry life has been so busy. Hope you find time to sew. I have to remember the term dreadmill, perfect description.

Very nice dress, thanks for sharing and oldie, but a goodie! "Hot and humid" is an understatement, it's like breathing underwater! Hope you have some sewing time soon!!!

I like that dress and have the pattern in my stash. Never would I have thought to lengthen the sleeves and add ruffles, great idea!

A loose dress is the way to go in this weather.

What a pretty dress! "Dreadmill" --- that's a new one for me! That plus the salad sounds very healthy!

I love the dress, but I think I love the expression on your face more.

It does look light and airy, and beautifully sewed.

Gwen,A very pretty dress and must have felt good if your weather is as hot and sticky as what we're having in the Maritimes.I dug out my favorite dress to wear to church yesterday ( the orange flower power dress in the A Few of my Favorite Things section on the sidebar of my blog. I broke a strict rule I have about not wearing sleeveless to church. That's how hot it was!
Your shirt in the last post is truly beautiful. Thanks for the link. I'm going to visit it.

You made your lovely dress using that pattern? I would have never guessed. I so admire people who can take a simple pattern and add details that make a garment beautiful and unique. Dreadmill, I love the term. Just so you know you are not alone, I am sitting here eating my carrot sticks, cherry tomatos and radishes in the hopes that they will fill me up and keep me from munching on unhealthy stuff.

Gwen, I hope all is well. This is the part of summer that I don't like: hot, hot and sticky. Lucky you to have the perfect dress for it. Nice dress and I'm looking forward to seeing your fall collection.

I like the fabric for the dress. When I was in N. Michigan I thought of you--wondering if you lived up that way. they actually had a huge Joann and a local shop in Petoskey. I grew up in Northern Indiana and did all our vacation in Michigan. I may have been to every corner!
I am doing the dreadmill and salad thing over here too!
