ReStylin'

My Creative Clothing Club often poses challenges. There are several going on right now--fabric flowers, B5249 skirt, CJ Patterns, etc. One of the challenges is to refashion a shirt.

I bought this instruction sheet from Indygo Junction. I like the two versions on the back page. And, I have, in the closet, a denim shirt that I never wear. I'm thinking of restyling it into one of the shirts pictured.

What they have done here is very simple. You determine the length of the shirt, minus the ruffles. Cut it off. Same with the sleeves. Enclose the front plackets with a strip of fabric, folded over the edges. Sew a strip of fabric on the collar. Make a bottom ruffle and sleeve ruffle. I would lose the bow at the waist and add a tube tie.

I seldom do projects such as this, but I thought I would bring my old shirt out of the closet and fix her up a bit. Maybe I can start on it while waiting for fabric that's on order for DD's jacket. I can't get to it until Sunday afternoon, but then I'll have a couple of days to sew.

A great weekend to all.

That looks like it could be cute in denim. Have a great weekend!

I usually find that this is not my thing either, but I had garage sale find of a $5 cashmere sweater from Neiman Marcus, so great quality. It was too tight and sat in my drawer got a moth hole in the turtle neck and was unwearable. I cut off the neck, up the middle and back and down the sleeves. Added strips of black wool knit and voila, one of my favorite sweaters! Refashioning can be very chic.

I can't wait to see the finished product. I'm almost done with a shirt refashion myself. The only thing with refashioning is it's addictive. All of the sudden, you find yourself looking at the potential for a refashion with every RTW item you own. My husband recently lost 3 shirts to the Refashion Stack -- LOL!!

Looks like a good project. It seems like refashioning is very popular these days. There was an event in SF recently that showcased fresh designs made from thrift store finds --- definitely brings out the creativity! Have a great weekend, and thank you for the information about the interfacing for knits!

I am planning to clean out my closet very soon and before I get rid of stuff I'm going to decide if any thing can be refashioned for my grands or maybe even for me. I can't wait to see your finished project. your things are always so detailed and so pretty.

I was planning on throwing out a lot of stuff because either the style has gone out or the other major reason being that I've gained too much weight so this would be perfect for me. I wish I had a creative club here where I live but I think that I have found it on the web with you and all the other lady bloggers out there in blogville. I love to meet people that think outside the box!!!

I haven't tried refashioning yet, but I agree with others - it is a popular thing these days.

Hey Gwen! I love that term "whack and stack"!! I am glad I got a good fit as well. I just kept cutting out bodices and basting until I got what I liked. It was a little obsessive in hindsight, but like you said, you can't have too many t's.
