Cell Phone Bag, Patterns and Fabric- Oh My!

Last weekend, I had a sew-in with a friend.  We had a good time, chatting and sewing, and she made an awesome Vegan soup for dinner.  A while ago, she made her own pattern for a cell phone bag that I admired.  For our sew-in, we both made that little bag.  It holds not only a phone, but has a pocket for license and cards and a clip to hang keys.  There's a D-ring attached to the top of the bag and a Carabiner to clip it to a belt loop,  or attach the long strap to wear cross-body.

The fabric is a crazy upholstery sample that has little tufts of thread that reminds me of eyelashes.  I love this little bag, and will make more.  There are many times I don't want to carry a big purse but need my license, a card or two and some money.  This will be perfect.

Jos has McCall and Butterick patterns on sale this weekend.  I'm working on pants for my Designer group challenge, and through a blog (I don't remember whose), read that ConnieCrawford's pant draft was good.  So, I picked up her pants and jeans patterns, and a couple of other patterns, as well.

It was my lucky day, because I found some decent fabric in their RedTag section.  Usually I find crap, but I came home with a really nice black/white/metallic stripe knit.  This knit is beefy-not the thin, wimpy stuff.  I also found a red knit, that's a nice weight for a drapey something.  The gray knit is thick, textured with a metallic in it.

My brown pants are still not sewn, and are waiting on a hanger.  I have nothing brown to wear with them, so I have to find a pattern and fabric to go with them once they're done.  Meanwhile, I decided I want to make jeans.  I'm using McCall 5894.  I worked on that pattern today, and have the jeans cut, machines threaded.  I'm using a yucky Jos denim for the trial pair, and have some denim on order from Fabric.com.  Or course, that's always a surprise too.

Sewing jeans tomorrow.

Your new little bag looks so cute and handy! I, too, have "orphans" throughout the stash and closet. Sometimes it seems we can't sew fast enough.

Love the cute little bag. That would be perfect to wear on my Disneyland excursions. I wish I knew if my Jos would have that stripe, then I would run right down and get.

That looks so handy!
I love that striped knit, it looks really good sitting next to the red. I can't wait to see what you do with them.

Yes, the Crawford pants pattern is pretty good, but tissue fit to check the back rise. If you look at the pattern piece it is quite a lot -- perhaps more than you want. I used the 1 x and cut off 3 inches at center back waistline, grading to the side seams.

Well, aren't you the busy bee! Your little cell phone bag is such a good idea, I see many use them. I am anxious to see what you think of the Connie Crawford pants. Most people find they run a little large, I have only made one or two tops from her line, never pants.

What a great haul! You have enough to keep you busy for a while - lol. That little bag is adorable and so practical!

That's such a cute bag -- great idea. Congrats on finding good fabric at Joann's -- I always find it difficult to find things that I like!

Cool bag, and congrats on the cool fabric. Can't wait to see your jeans - is this the first time you've made them?

I make Coni Crawford pants B5222 for all my clients no matter what size. There is a big jump from XL-on up as the center back seam rises high with the larger sizes. It is easily reduced once basted and tried on. If you need the larger size for your hips, go for it and trim down the center back seam but it sure comes in handy when my larger ladies sit down and they don't want to expose their undies.I have examples of different ways of using the pattern without a waistband, some with elastic sewn in flat and flipped, some with home made facings on my blog http://fitforaqueen.wordpress.com/

A motivating discussion is definitely worth comment.

I think that you need to write more about this topic, it may not be a taboo matter but generally people do not
talk about these issues. To the next! Kind regards!
